Losberger De Boer
Photo London is the UK’s leading international photography fair, held annually at Somerset House in central London. Since its relaunch in 2015, it has established itself as a defining moment in the international cultural calendar, bringing together the world’s most acclaimed photographers, galleries, and curators alongside a new generation of emerging talent. Over 120 international exhibitors attend each edition, and the fair attracts collectors, institutional groups, and photography lovers from across the globe.
Somerset House itself — the magnificent 18th-century building on the Embankment — is one of London’s most iconic cultural venues. Its famous courtyard is one of the most photographed spaces in the capital, and it hosts a remarkable programme of events, exhibitions, and cultural moments throughout the year. Losberger De Boer holds a rare and privileged position as one of very few companies permitted to build temporary structures within the Somerset House courtyard — a testament to the trust placed in their ability to deliver to the highest standard in a heritage environment.
Building at Somerset House is unlike any other project. The restrictions are strict, the heritage sensitivities are real, and the visual expectations from both the venue and the client are uncompromising. Every structure must be built and dismantled without leaving a trace, must complement the architecture of one of London’s most treasured buildings, and must meet the exacting requirements of an event that attracts a highly discerning international audience.
For Photo London 2023, Losberger De Boer delivered the temporary gallery and exhibition infrastructure that transformed the courtyard into a world-class fair environment. Our brief was to capture the story of that process — the precision, the privilege, and the partnership between Losberger De Boer and one of London’s most iconic cultural institutions.
We produced a hero case study film that places Losberger De Boer’s work firmly within the cultural significance of Somerset House and the Photo London fair. The film tells a story of trust, precision, and heritage — positioning Losberger De Boer not just as a structure provider, but as a cultural infrastructure partner that enables some of the most important events in London’s arts calendar to happen at all.
This case study is the first in what will become a broader Somerset House content series. Going Digital will be filming multiple events at the venue throughout 2025 and beyond, building out a dedicated body of work that captures the full breadth of what Losberger De Boer delivers there across the year.
The Photo London case study opens an important new chapter in the Losberger De Boer content story — moving beyond the events and aviation sectors into the world of arts and culture, and demonstrating the versatility and sensitivity with which they approach projects in heritage settings. It is also the foundation of a growing Somerset House content ecosystem that will continue to develop across future editions of Photo London and the many other events that take place in this remarkable space.
